Reporting from an urban garden

This is the launch month for Dispatches from a Small World so I give you… the whole garden! I’ve been drawing all of it periodically, when I spot something new. I notice what dusk does to the greens, how snow highlights the kind of garden it is – and at this time of year, it changes every day. Here, tulips and narcissi that will have gone over in a week, leaves bursting forth, light sitting on top of the shrubs and pops of brightness from the odd dandelion. I draw very quickly and with the afternoon light constantly changing, that’s a useful thing. The vertical texture is the grain of paper made for digital print. I’m using up paper samples from completed design projects.

Biro, watercolour, fineliner on waste paper.
